Scholarship Recipients

I am fortunate enough to have been granted this scholarship over the past three years.  I have been able to continue my education even further and broaden my knowledge and perspectives.  This, in turn, has helped me become a well rounded and educated individual.  This scholarship has allowed and encouraged me to pursue my dreams and goals for my future.

In August I decided I wanted to finish my education at Florida State University.  However, even though I had worked as much as I could during the summer, I did not even come close to meeting my tuition costs.  The scholarship that the NFL Retired Players Association granted me has truly been a blessing in that area of my life.

My parents are quite a bit older most of my peer's parents.  They have been in the work force much longer than they should be.  They have taken care of my whole like, and I believe that it is time to start taking care of myself.  This scholarship has benefited me the most by taking care of my school tuition and keeping my parent's minds at ease.  They know that my tuition has been taken care of, and they have not had to worry about finding the means to put me through school.

It is extremely hard to put all of my gratitude into words for your support for the past 4 years.  I truly cannot thank you enough for making all of this possible.

Through the financial support of the NFL Retired Players Association scholarship, coupled with institutional grants, I am able to attend college debt free.  It is this financial support that has allowed me to delve deeper into my studies, and comprehend material that is still confusing for my counterparts.  However, more than just the money, the moral support and knowledge that this organization believes in me, and has invested in my future, has brought me an unbelievable amount of confidence when I needed it most.

The generosity of your scholarship that I have received has been extremely beneficial to me.  I have only had to work just three days a week at Publix to pay for minor expenses.  If I did not have your scholarship, the workload would have increased greatly.  I have been able to focus my time more on school and in doing so have kept my GPA up.  Studying is something I am doing everyday (even on breaks at work), and have been able to keep up with, thanks to your kindness.  Your scholarship has freed me of the worries of financial aid, and allowed me to use my time and energy to do better in school.  There is no doubt in my mind that I would not be doing as well in school, if I did not have the type of aid that you support with me.

This scholarship has eliminated the financial burden of college expenses, which has allowed me to focus on the more important aspects of school.  As a result, I do not need to have a full time job.  This allows me more time to focus on studying.  I do, however, work part time as a soccer referee.  I feel it is more fun than a typical student job, and it gives me extra spending money.  I have learned so much these last two years.  As a result, I feel I have developed into a more educated and well-rounded individual.

The past two years have flown by for me as I have been through the ups and downs of college life.  From major exams on back to back days, to dealing with loud and crazy dorm life, to fitting in workouts and my participation in campus activities, I have definitely grown as a person due to my new experiences and responsibilities.  Not to mention the constant financial burden put on my family with two sons attending college.  The past two years of your contributions have helped a great deal as the overall costs of college continues to rise.  I am truly thankful for the financial aid I have received over the past two years.  Thank you for providing me this amazing experience, and I am to make you proud, knowing that the NFL Retired Player's Association helped me make this possible.

After losing my father in May, I had to depend on scholarships to keep myself in school because my mom cannot fully support me.  This scholarship covered my rent for the whole school year and the cost of my books, which are the two most expensive things in school.  This scholarship made it so that I could be involved in so many different things and not worry about working all of the time.  It has covered all of my stresses with money so that I can focus on school and extracurricular activities.  This scholarship gave me more time for myself because I could cut my hours back at work.  Time for myself has been one of the most important things for me this year considering what I have been through the past year.  I went to grief counseling to help with the loss o my dad when I had a few extra hours, which I would not have had this money not been granted to me.

Growing up, I always heard about the first year of college and how it was such an important year in a person's life.  Not only are you undertaking a daunting academic endeavor, but you are also undergoing an extreme social change in which you must adapt to your new environment.  These two aspects of the transition from high school to college are both much more easily achieved with financial help.  Not having to worry about all of these up-front costs that drain your bank account at the beginning of the semester leaves you in a much better financial situation and keeps you from having to stress out about finances.  I can say without a doubt that the NFL Retired Player's Association Scholarship has made my first year on campus a much smoother and easier transition from home.
